Christy Tells: "I Knew They Had Potential To Alter My Life."
Yesterday, long-term fan Christy send me an email with her story about Avenged Sevenfold, how she got to know them and how they changed her life. Her story touched me, seeing as I truly believe that music and bands can affect the life of a fan. And recently, Zacky Vengeancce told Noisecreep how we changed their lives: ""If it wasn't for them, we certainly wouldn't have had the strength to get back there and basically walk through the fire at the hardest time in our life."
I wanted to share her story with all of you, because I'm sure some of you can relate to it.
All of my life, the music I listened to as well as the people who make it - shaped and molded me into who I have become. I’ve lived through my share, and probably a few other peoples’ share, of hard times, bumps, bruises, and scars, and the one thing that has always been able to keep me from going under was the music I love. These are a few of my stories. AVENGED SEVENFOLD At the ever-so-tender age of fourteen, I was in the midst of a handful or two of potentially life-threatening events. When you were fourteen, were you ever afraid to wake up in the morning? I could recall at least a few times where I have been. I’ve suffered from severe depression, bipolar disorder, a painful skin disease and anxiety practically since I was a child. All I needed was a reason to keep on, and although I looked for it every day for years, it found me, at the most critical time. I remember the first time I ever heard of Avenged Sevenfold; I was browsing the web non-chalantly one day and became fixed on one website, where I kept seeing the old Waking the Fallen promo photo of Avenged Sevenfold all over peoples’ profiles. I asked myself, “Who is this band, and why do I keep seeing and hearing about them?” And I answered my own question when I looked them up and listened to “Chapter Four”. I knew the first time I listened to them that they had potential to alter my life and my way of thinking, just by doing whatever it is they do. CONTINUE READING

Avenged Sevenfold On The Cover Of Metal Hammer!
As posted before, Avenged Sevenfold is on the cover of the July issue of Metal Hammer magazine. The magazine also features a large article on the band, so be sure to get yourself a copy!

Chris Jericho is excited for Nightmare
Rocksins.com recently interviewed WWE Champion and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho and asked him what new music would he recommend to everybody. His answer?
Chris: I'm really excited about the new Avenged Sevenfold record with Mike Portnoy on drums, that¢s gonna be great.
Later on in the same interview, he mentions Avenged Sevenfold again:
I was talking to M Shadows (From Avenged Sevenfold), they came to our show in New York too, kinda a star studded show with Avenged Sevenfold and Vinnie Paul and Charlie (Benante) and Scott (Ian) brought Joey Belladonna before Joey was back in Anthrax, its like the healing music of Fozzy helped those guys get back together again! But there were all these great people there and M Shadows was telling me about how when Avenged Sevenfold toured with Maiden it was just a massacre and Metallica too but they're a great band too so you just have to go out there and do your thing and hope to win them over. We opened for Motorhead on a bunch of shows and that was just rotten and then maybe at the end you'd get a nod and you'd be like “Thank You!!”. But you know you¢d expect that if you open for those bands they're legendary bands people go to see them and that's it; it's not easy to be an opening band. If we were given the chance to do something like I said and it was feasible for us to do it we absolutely would.

One more piece has fallen into place. Twelve more to go...

Avenged Sevenfold: "When Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan Died, It Was Over"
Check out this article from Noisecreep.com, who spoke to Zacky Vengeance about Jimmy's passing and the future of the band.
Every band handles tragedy differently. The Who of course went on when drummer Keith Moon died in 1978. Led Zeppelin, however, decided to call it quits following the demise of drummer John Bonham in 1980. Avenged Sevenfold are moving forward, with a new hit song, 'Nightmare,' and album due in July of the same name.
But guitarist Zacky Vengeance tells Noisecreep that when drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan passed away last year, the band was finished. "When we called each other and got the call that Jimmy had died, literally it all ended right there," Vengeance, whose real name is Zachary Baker, says. "Everything we've ever known as human beings, everything we've ever known as a band, changes at that moment, and you can't think clearly. You can't see anything, you can't talk, you can't make any sense of anything. It was just done. You don't care about music, there's just nothing."
So what changed their minds? "I can honestly tell you if it wasn't for our fans, there would not be Avenged Sevenfold right now," he says. "The fans would send in hundreds and thousands of letters, and they'd make books begging us to keep going and thanking us for what we have done and honoring Jimmy. They held vigils all over the world."
Avenged didn't acknowledge the fan reception at the time, because as Vengeance says, "We weren't in the state to say, 'OK, we're gonna organize events for everyone, all of our fans to get together.' 'Cause it's not a publicity stunt. When that really happens, it's not about that." But they were paying attention and saw all of the vigils. And he says that's what kept the band going. "If it wasn't for them, we certainly wouldn't have had the strength to get back there and basically walk through the fire at the hardest time in our life."
The result is an album they are immensely proud of, and one they feel honors their fallen band mate. "Our friend had written this amazing album with us, and we had to preserve his legacy -- let everyone know how genius he really was," Vengenace says. "He'd done everything in life that he wanted to do, but now we realize we were put on this earth to show everyone how great he was."
Still, as thrilled as they are with the album -- which Vengenace teases, "People aren't even gonna believe what's in store for them" -- it remains very, very difficult for him to hear the music. "There are times when I'm going back through playing some parts and thinking about the lyrics, and I'll tear up because there's nothing else I can do," he says. "That probably happens at least once a day at this point."
Thanks to Alex for sending this in!

Avenged Sevenfold have posted another piece of the puzzle:

Joel Madden Speaks Out About "Nightmare" Single And Album
Good Charlotte is currently attending the Bamboozle Roadshow and did a live video chat yesterday on UStream. When asked about Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" Joel said the following:
"I think that 'Nightmare' is awesome. The song is awesome. If you haven't heard it, go to iTunes and get Avenged Sevenfold's new single 'Nightmare'. But I got the hear the record and it's amazing. That record, as an Avenged Sevenfold fan, I've been a fan since 'Waking The Fallen' and I've really liked every record. We all have our favorites, but I like every record. This record blows away every record they've ever made. It's really exciting. I'm excited for them. I can't wait to see it live. But if you haven't heard 'Nightmare' from Avenged Sevenfold, go to iTunes and check it out. It's good."

Metal Hammer Says "Nightmare" Must Hear Album Summer 2010
Metal Hammer has released their "Top 10 Albums You Must Hear This Summer" and "Nightmare" is on it:
Avenged Sevenfold ‘Nightmare’ Through adversity, will Avenged triumph? Well, by the sounds of the album’s title-track and lead single, we’d have to say hell fucking yeah! After the tragic passing of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan, A7X have arguably the best drummer in the world in Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy pounding the skins on ‘Nightmare’. Throw in Avenged’s customary, epic song structures and this one is sure to smoke.
